Multimedia University which is set up through University Telekom works to educate future leaders. It is considered the first private university in Malaysia and the first developer of the establishment of private universities in the nation, it also serves as a developer to the high tech ICT industry of the nation, parallel to the Silicon Valley-Stanford model in the United States.
MMU has not only grown in to 20,000 students in 15 years but also runs two campuses; the original campus is located in the historical city of Melaka and the other campus is in Cyberjaya that was opened by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed. 30,523 people graduated at the time and a recent survey states that 91% were employed within 6 months from graduation. The university has also hosted 4200 international students coming from 77 countries.
The university was able to be a pioneer in research and development and being in good connection with the industry through collaborations and research partnerships including 13 research centers that focus on the fields of nano technology, microsystems, biometrics, visual reality, microwave and telecommunications, engineering, photonics, advanced robotics and business.
